Our Business Concept
We chose our name thoughtfully.
Our intention is to operate our farm sustainably by making the best use of the resources available to us.
Many farms in Alaska operate on a batch production model in which materials are purchased, a product is created, and wastes are disposed of.
We have designed our farm to use cyclical processes, in which the wastes of one operation become the inputs for another.
Some of these operations will work well enough using traditional farming techniques, while others will work better by implementing modern technological solutions.
To us, minimal plastic use, cyclical production processes, and the blending of traditional and modern agricultural practices seems like the wiser path.

About Us

Matthew
I grew up on a small farm in upstate New York.
We raised vegetables and berries in our cleared areas and collected firewood from the wooded areas.
We also raised rabbits, goats, chickens, ducks, geese, and pheasants for meat, milk, and eggs.
In college, I studied physics, astronomy, and process technology. In graduate school, I studied space physics and did research about the aurora.
After earning my M.S degree, I enrolled in a teacher certification program and started working as a high school teacher.
Now that I have retired from teaching I have turned my attention to developing our farming operation.
Melissa
I grew up in a suburb near Philadelphia.
In college, I studied political science and the German and Russian languages. My M.A. degree is in Soviet Studies.
With that background, I never expected I would come to love spending my days washing eggs and pulling guts out of chickens. However, my husband is tremendously charming and has hooked me into this lifestyle.
I spent many years homeschooling our two children, until they returned to public school for high school.
Now that my children are adults I am eagerly devoting my time to growing vegetables and creating recipes with our products.
