Guest for Breakfast

While I was preparing my breakfast on Tuesday, I saw this fellow sitting on the far side of the yard.  He was back, again, this morning.  This is probably a snowshoe hare.

We also have cottontail rabbits, feral rabbits, and hybrids in the area.  In the southwest of the state, there are Alaska hares, which are far larger than anything around here.

I think it is a snowshoe hare because I have seen rabbits of similar description in the yard at different times of the year and have seen their colors varying with the season.  The rabbits don’t have such a color change.

You can’t see it in these pictures, but this fellow has black tips on his ears and a bit of a mustache tuft under his nose.  Also, his white fur is speckled with a fair amount of brown.
