Juneberries and Spiraea

This spring, the weather has been cooler than usual and so, rather than blooming precisely on June 1, as was the case last year, our Saskatoon berries (Juneberries) took a bit more time.  In the end, the extra time was worth it, because they look quite attractive and there are more of them this year.  The bushes have grown, noticeably since last year and there are more branches to produce blossoms.  I look forward to the berries!

The spiraea is now in bloom, as well.  This group of blossoms is from a small patch near the Saskatoon bushes.  There were some bees checking it out, but they were not feeling photogenic and left before I could catch any in a picture.

  1. While not knowing anything about Saskatoon berries, your spirea is a warm memory of having planted one two years before selling my house. It was wonderful to behold that second year – then the house was sold, and new owners tore it out!
