Taking A Trip

Have you ever tried to make it look as if you were tripping over a power cord?  I suspect not.  It is probably uncommon as a pastime.  However, in case you are ever motivated to attempt it, here are some of my thoughts on the matter.  Perhaps they will be of assistance.

It is important to create a sense of forward motion.  In this picture, I was standing on my left foot, and raising my right foot, as if to step forward.  It doesn’t look believable because my legs are too perpendicular to the ground.

To give my legs a decent incline to the ground without actually falling, I pushed a shovel into the snow and used it to support myself as I leaned forward.  By holding the handle of the shovel, I was able to give my legs more inclination than would otherwise be possible while standing.  The only problem with this picture is that my left foot is pointing too much toward the camera.  The perspective obscures the angles in my foot and ankle, which were two of the key details I was attempting to show.

The final picture (seen above the post title) combines what I learned about leg inclination with a better view of the bends in my left foot and ankle.  It might not fool an investigator, but I think it looks reasonably believable.

At this point, you may well be wondering why I wanted such a picture.  It is for use in the presentation I will make on April 19 for the Arctic Innovation Competition.  The device I created has some connection with the problem of tripping.

That is the only clue I will drop today.

  1. The thermocouple picture resembles the lavender picture you chowed for the contest, so now I am thinking it has to do with keeping wires going where you want them to go, so you don’t trip on them – an organizer or sorts.
    Am I right?

      Nope.
I guess you’ll have to wait until 4/19 to find out.
      Mwahaha!
      [imagine handwringing]
