In order to move the cots to the coop, I first needed to empty at least one of the quail pens. There was no point in dividing up the job so I harvested all the adult quail at once.
Three quail don’t amount to much meat, but it takes little effort to clean them. It evens out. It was too cold out to keep them from freezing while I was cleaning them so, after dispatching them, I brought them inside and cleaned them in the kitchen. Normally, I would not do that, because I don’t like the smell of the wet feathers and innards in the house. Fortunately, it only took about half an hour to clean the three birds, remove the trash, and wash the utensils.
Now, we have only the two older cots and eight young cots. It was too cold in the coop for the young cots so I turned on the electric heater ahead of time. I took them out in the afternoon. When I went to the coop for evening chores, they seemed to be alright.
