More Signs of Spring

The Easter Bunny came a day late this year, which is understandable considering the minimal claim the spring season has made upon the land.

While I was making my morning coffee, this fellow came to visit the back yard.  He is still in winter color phase, which is the sensible thing, considering how deep the snow is.  Here, in Fairbanks, many of us are speculating as to how long it will be before we can see the ground, again.

One of the local stores has a “Spring Sale” sign standing out by the roadside.  Melissa and I find it amusing to see such a sign standing on the lower slope of a 12’-high snowbank that nearly obscures the store behind it.

Technically, it actually IS spring.  The calendar decrees it, but there is little corroboration to be seen in the outdoors.  There are hardly any puddles, yet.

The most obvious indicator of seasonal change is the strength of the daylight.  It is now warm enough that I can wear just a light jacket during the day.  At night, I still wear my coat, but no longer need a hat or scarf.  Frustratingly, the stronger daylight inspires me to do something outdoors, but the deep snow cover hinders me from doing anything I have been looking forward to doing.

Spring continues to be my least favorite time of the year.
