Seeder Project – Driving System

Here are example pieces from the largest printing job I have run, thus far.  These four components are for the driving system that will turn the seed collection disks and set the spacing between the seeds when they are planted in the ground.  By carefully selecting the physical destinations of the different pieces on the printer platform, I was able to print quite a number of components at once.

When I arrived to collect the completed printing I was disappointed to discover that the job had stalled 90 minutes short of completion.  Fortunately, the Print Den staff were able to determine the error that caused the printer to shut down and were able to get the printer to resume the job from the point at which it left off.  There is a barely-discernible seam on the two pulley wheels, but no other indications of any problem with the printing.

The Print Den has, since, closed for the summer, which means any parts whose need I haven’t anticipated will have to be made the old-fashioned way.  That being the case, my fingers are firmly crossed in the hope that everything I have created will work properly and that no complicated parts have slipped my mind.

The field is still covered with snow, but it is melting rapidly now that the outdoor temperatures are continually above freezing.  The driveway is still iced over, which makes it impossible to set up my sawhorses or work tables.  For lack of work space, I will have to focus on gathering materials and preparing small parts for the future full assembly.  It is frustrating to not be able to move ahead faster with the project, but that is the reality of the situation.

One more reason why spring is my least favorite season!
